About Alex Gorringe

I’m Alex Gorringe, founder of Club 11 Plus - an online academy created to make top-quality 11 Plus preparation affordable, flexible, and stress-free for every family.

With more than 15 years of 11 Plus tutoring experience and a lifelong love of learning, I know how much difference the right support can make. My goal is simple: to help children reach their full potential without parents having to spend a fortune.

Experience and Background

Before launching Club 11 Plus, I spent 15 years as an 11 Plus tutor, as well as 10 years as a Kumon Instructor, teaching maths and English to children aged 4 to 17. During that time, I saw first-hand how children thrive when given structure, encouragement, and achievable steps to success.

Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of children preparing for GL-style 11 Plus tests, guiding them through every aspect, from English comprehension and vocabulary to maths, verbal, and non-verbal reasoning.

I hold a BA (Hons) in German and Philosophy, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law, studies that deepened my appreciation for language, logic, and analytical thinking - all vital skills for success in the 11 Plus.

My Mission - to Level the Playing Field

I’ve always admired the concept of grammar schools, but after years of one-to-one tutoring, I realised that many families were priced out of the system. The solution was clear - to combine expert teaching, proven techniques, and digital flexibility, all for an affordable price. That’s how Club 11 Plus was born:

  • Online lessons and quizzes children can do anytime.

  • Progress tracking and feedback for parents.

  • Affordable monthly pricing with no minimum term.

  • Available on desktop pc, or via the Club 11 Plus app.

It’s the same knowledge and structure you’d get from experienced tutors, delivered with warmth, humour, and a geeky love of all things 11 Plus.

A Love of Learning

I’ve always loved the process of discovery, whether that meant puzzling over German grammar, untangling philosophical arguments, or finding new ways to explain tricky maths problems. That’s the spirit I bring to Club 11 Plus - I want children to see learning as problem-solving adventure, not pressure, to be proud of spotting their mistakes, to laugh when a quiz question catches them out, and to keep building confidence, one challenge at a time.

Beyond Tuition

When I’m not creating new quizzes or analysing past papers, I write blog posts and guides to help parents understand the 11 Plus journey. I also work with schools and tutors through our branded 11 Plus Tutor Hubs, providing an affordable tuition platform for 11 Plus tutors and primary schools to offer their own students.
