At Club 11 Plus, we believe that one of the most important things you can do as a parent to help your child prepare for the 11 Plus is to encourage them to read widely.

Reading has benefits that last far beyond the exam itself. It builds a rich active and passive vocabulary, and opens up worlds of imagination. Unlike word lists, which can feel forced and artificial, regular reading develops vocabulary naturally and effectively.

As tutors, we consistently notice that children who love reading are far more likely to succeed in the 11 Plus. Strong reading habits not only support the English paper but also verbal reasoning, which relies heavily on vocabulary, and even maths, where fluency in reading helps children tackle word problems with confidence.

Because of this, we’ve created a free Club 11 Plus Book List, with a balanced mix of timeless classics and modern favourites, and short descriptions to help you and your child choose genres they’ll enjoy. We've even added a Student Reading Log for you to print out, so your child can keep a record of all the wonderful books they've read.
