What Is Club 11 Plus - and Is It Right for Your Child?

Jan 12 / Alex Gorringe
If you’ve spent any time researching 11 Plus preparation, you’ve probably come across lots of different options: one-to-one tutors, group tuition, books, online lessons, mock tests…. and now online academies like Club 11 Plus.

One of the most common messages we receive from parents is a very honest one:
“I like the idea of Club 11 Plus, but I’m not quite sure what it actually is.”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. And it’s a fair question - because Club 11 Plus isn’t traditional tutoring, but it isn’t the same as buying practice books either.

So this post is here to explain what Club 11 Plus is, what it isn’t, and how it works - so you can decide whether it’s the right fit for your child.

First things first: what Club 11 Plus is not

Club 11 Plus is not:

•  One-to-one tuition (though in addition to our online academy, we do also offer a very limited number of online or face-to-face one-to-one tuition classes).

•  Group tuition or live classes.

•  A tutor-led Zoom course.

•  A pile of pdf worksheets emailed to parents.

If you’re specifically looking for weekly live teaching sessions with a tutor, Club 11 Plus probably isn’t what you’re after (although you’re welcome to message us to ask if we have any one-to-one tuition slots available).

So what is Club 11 Plus?

Club 11 Plus is a fully automated online academy, designed specifically to prepare children for GL-style 11 Plus tests.

It works in a similar way to platforms such as Atom Learning, which many parents are familiar with - but with a narrower focus on GL-style 11 Plus tests, and a strong emphasis on affordability.

Children learn independently through:

•  short, clear online lessons,

•  followed by interactive quizzes,

•  with instant feedback if they get a question wrong,

•  and unlimited attempts to help them really understand the topic.

There’s no pressure to rush, no time limits unless a quiz is designed to practise timing, and no penalty for getting things wrong.

How learning works, step by step

Club 11 Plus covers all the core subjects tested in GL 11 Plus exams:

•  Maths

•  English

•  Verbal Reasoning

•  Non-Verbal Reasoning

Some schools also test Spatial Reasoning and Creative Writing, but these subjects are only tested by a small number of schools and are therefore not currently included in the Club 11 Plus subscription, although we do offer stand-alone Creative Writing video courses.

Topic-based learning (not random practice)

Each subject is broken down into clear topic modules, so children aren’t guessing what to work on next. For example:

•  Maths is split into 23 modules (fractions, percentages, shapes, etc).

•  Verbal Reasoning is split into 20 modules, one for each of the GL 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning question types.

•  Non-Verbal Reasoning is split into 6 modules, one for each of the GL 11 Plus Non-Verbal Reasoning question types.

•  English is split into 5 key areas.

Each module includes:

•  At least one lesson explaining the method. Some modules have as many as 9 lessons.

• Two or more quizzes focused on that topic. For some modules, we offer up to 20 quizzes. For others, we offer mixed quizzes once the topic modules have been completed.

Feedback, progress and motivation

Every time a child completes a quiz:

•  Parents receive an automatic email with the score and time taken.

•  Children can see their progress on their own dashboard.

When a child completes a module, they receive a certificate, which is motivating and confidence-boosting.

Is it really “hands-off” for parents?

Not at all!

While the learning itself is automated, the support you receive from Club 11 Plus is very human. We offer:

•  Free email advice for anyone.

•  A free 30-minute phone or Zoom chat for all members.

•  A free "Ask Club 11 Plus" messaging service, available to all our students.

•  A small number of one-to-one tutoring places.

Parents don’t need to sit beside their child while they work, but they’re never left wondering how things are going.

What’s included - and what isn’t

The monthly subscription includes:

•  All core lessons and quizzes.

•  Progress tracking and certificates.

•  Baseline tests and mock tests.

•  Full access across desktop and app.

Some courses, such as Creative Writing, which involve individual marking and personalised feedback from experienced 11 Plus tutors, are offered as separate premium courses. These are available to both subscribed and non-subscribed families. This isn’t about upselling; it’s simply because tutor-marked work can’t be automated in the same way as our other learning materials.

Why we built Club 11 Plus this way

High-quality 11 Plus tuition is often expensive. One-to-one tutoring can easily cost hundreds of pounds a month, which puts it out of reach for many families.

Club 11 Plus was created with a clear aim: to make high-quality, effective 11 Plus preparation affordable, flexible and accessible.

Grammar schools were originally designed to offer opportunity based on ability, not income. Automation allows us to deliver structured, expert-designed preparation at a fraction of the cost of traditional tutoring, without compromising on quality.

Is Club 11 Plus right for every child?

No single approach suits everyone, and we’re always honest about that. But for families preparing for GL-style 11 Plus tests, who want:

• clear structure,

• expert-designed content,

• flexibility around busy family life,

• strong progress tracking,

• and affordable support,

Club 11 Plus can be a very effective solution.

If you’re unsure whether it’s right for your child, you’re always welcome to get in touch. We’re happy to talk things through - with no pressure and no obligation.

We always offer a 7-day free trial, so you can explore the platform properly before making a payment. This gives you and your child time to look around, try the lessons and quizzes, and see how the system works in practice - with no obligation to continue if it’s not right for you.
