Free 11 Plus Baseline Tests at Club 11 Plus

Mar 9 / Alex Gorringe
Helping your child prepare for the 11 Plus test can feel like stepping into very unfamiliar territory.

Many parents wonder where their child currently stands - are they already close to the level needed for a grammar school entrance exam, or is there still a lot of ground to cover?

To help answer that question, we’re making an important change at Club 11 Plus:

Our baseline tests are now available to everyone free of charge!

This means that families can get an immediate sense of their child’s starting point before deciding whether or how they would like to continue their preparation.

What is a baseline test?

A baseline test is designed to answer a very simple question:

“What is my child's starting point?”

At Club 11 Plus we offer short baseline tests in four subjects:

• Maths

• English

• Verbal Reasoning

• Non-Verbal Reasoning

Each test lasts 10 minutes and is set at a level similar to questions that appear in GL-style 11 Plus exams.

The aim is not to produce a perfect score. Instead, the baseline test provides a snapshot of current knowledge and confidence.

And if you need any help interpreting the results, we offer a free email advice service to everyone, and a free 30-minute phone or Zoom chat to all our subscribed customers.

A first experience of 11 Plus questions

For many children, the baseline tests are the first time they encounter certain types of 11 Plus questions.

For example:

• Verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions may well be completely new to them.

• Some maths and English topics may not yet have been taught at school.

Because of this, scores can sometimes look lower than parents expect.

Don't worry - that's completely normal.

The purpose of the baseline tests is not to judge ability - it is simply to establish a starting point.

A realistic test experience

Unlike the regular Club 11 Plus practice quizzes, baseline tests work a little differently.

Children only get one opportunity to answer each question, and once the 10-minute timer ends, the test finishes automatically, even if some questions remain unanswered.

This creates an experience that is closer to the timing pressure children encounter in a real exam.

As soon as the test is completed, the result is emailed to parents so that progress can be tracked from the very beginning.

Don’t worry about low scores

A low baseline score should never be a cause for concern.
In fact, it is extremely common.

Children who have never seen reasoning questions before, or who are unfamiliar with working under time pressure, often start with scores that look surprisingly low.

Over the years we’ve seen many students begin with baseline scores below 20%, but who later go on to perform very strongly in the real 11 Plus exams.

The baseline simply tells us where the journey begins.

Baseline tests, diagnostic tests and mock tests

At Club 11 Plus we use several different types of tests, each designed to serve a different purpose.

Baseline tests – setting a starting point

Baseline tests are short and designed to provide a quick overview of a child’s current level.

They answer the question:

“Where are we starting from?”

Diagnostic tests - identifying specific gaps

Diagnostic tests go much deeper.

Rather than simply providing a score, they analyse performance topic by topic, showing which areas are secure and which may need further work.

Our diagnostic reports use a traffic-light system to make results easy to understand.

Our Maths Diagnostic Test Pack is available as a separate purchase and is designed to help parents build a clear learning plan.

Mock tests - practising for the real exam

Mock tests are designed to replicate the experience of a real 11 Plus exam as closely as possible.

They help children practise:

• working under time pressure

• managing exam nerves

• applying their knowledge across a full test paper

Our core mock tests are included within the Club 11 Plus subscription.

A helpful first step

The aim of the Club 11 Plus baseline tests is simply to provide clarity.

Instead of wondering where to begin, parents can see exactly how their child responds to real 11 Plus-style questions. From there, it becomes much easier to decide how to move forward.

Whether your child is already close to exam level, or just beginning their preparation, the baseline test gives you a clear and helpful starting point.
